DVD Releases June 12, 2012

Time to take a look at a selection of DVD releases for Tuesday June 12, 2012!

• Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (podcast review) Robert Downey Jr. and Jule Law are back in the sequel to the successful Sherlock Holmes film, this time with new cast members Noomi Rapace but still with Guy Ritchie in the directors chair. Not quite as amazing as the first film but still a lot of fun.
• Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (podcast review) more sequels this week with Nicolas Cage back as the Devil-dealed Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider, I hmm'd and haw'd on this one, but it's certainly better than the original and has an impressive supporting casting including Idris Elba, Ciarán Hinds and Anthony Stewart Head; Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance comes out on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray & DVD
• The Prodigies I missed this one at the theatre and really wanted to see it, it's an animated film film following a group of prodigies who decide to fight back after an assault, see the trailer for it here. (Amazon.ca only)
• Demoted comedy following prank-playing tire salesmen (Sean Astin and Michael Vartan) who find themselves placed in secretarial jobs by their put-upon boss (David Cross). I have to admit seeing Sean Astin and Michael Vartan as secretary-types has me curious to see this one!
• TV on DVD this week includes Pretty Little Liars Season 2 which I am kicking myself I didn't catch up with last summer when they marathoned Season 1 before airing Season 2, we also have Missing The Complete First Season starring Ashley Judd, Sean Bean, Cliff Curtis and Adriano Giannini, GCB The Complete First Season, Scandal The Complete First Season starring Kerry Washington, Henry Ian Cusick, Guillermo Diaz and Entourage Season 8. Wow. Entourage has been on that long? Wow.
• Two awesome titles getting the Criterion treatment this week on both BluRay and DVD are Harold and Maude starring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon and bone-chilling thriller Shallow Grave which honestly, is one film that although brilliant I have not been able to bring myself to re-watch.
• Lethal Weapon Complete Collection on BluRay I have to admit it'd be great to get these Mel Gibson and Danny Glover buddy cop movies on BluRay! I haven't watched them in ages and were a fave when growing up.
• The Dark Crystal / Labyrinth on Blu-ray This set looks pretty good to, it's a 2-Disc Collectors Edition called the The Brian Froud Art Edition.
• Meatballs Ivan Reitman's classic Canadian camp comedy starring Bill Murray and Harvey Atkin comes out on BluRay and DVD.
• Humans vs Zombies BluRay Wildcard pick of the week is this "Dark Comedy and Horror unite in this satirical thriller based on the "Live Action Role-Playing" game of the same name." Based on LARPing and zombies... I want to see it!
